Planetary
stranding machine
This is
the classic and ideai machine to strand wires without any backtwist,
and therefore to avoid any stresses on them, thus maintaining in full
their originai characteristics and perlormances.
Originally designed for the production of OPGW cables, has proven to
be ideai for fiberoptics cables, steel armoured cables, insulated
telecommunication copper wires, bare copper conductors reunited in
power transmission cables. The conception of the machine is fully
originai and dictated by the will of semplify the construction, reduce
drastically the possibility of failures and therefore the maintenance
necessities, with a trouble free and long working life. |

The
cages contai n the necessary number of cradles arranged in ranks
of six. Each rank is contained between a couple of disks directly
supported by a tough centrai shaft, carried by two supports
through two overdimensioned taper roller bearings. A wearless
rotation is so obtained, thus avoiding any necessities of external
supports like gesadur rolls. Ali the cynematic relations (the
horyzontal, and fixed in respect of ground, orientation of the
first rank cradles; and the transmission of the same motion to the
other ranks) andthe generai drive of the machine are obtained by
means of toothed belts, so obtaining a very silent, effective and
troublefree operation. The rotation power is supplied by an AC
electrical motor with inverter, so avoiding the customary
maintenance and substitution problem on rotatory commutators and
brushes, usual on traditional rotating machines. A compact and
reliable machine, of rational design and
sturdy construction, draft for years of troublefree operation: an
effective workhorse.

The version of the machine illustrated in the pictures has two independent cages, the first carrying six bobbins arranged in a sole rank, the second carrying twelve bobbins in two ranges.
It's used to strand bare copper conductors (strands of 16 mm2 cross section) to produce paper insulated power cables for transformers (of 600 mm2 cross section).
In a first run, with cages rotating independently and in opposite sense, a 1
+ 6 + 12 section is obtained, as opposed layers of 6 and 12 are added to the centrai core; in a second run, with the two cages operating in tandem and rotating in the same sense, the third layer of 18 is added. The so obtained 1
+ 6 + 12 + 18 cable is shaped in the desired section, circular (by a compacting die) or squared (by couples of compacting rolls) and then covered (by three taping heads operating in series), with several layers of paper/polyester cellophane/ copper/aluminum tapes. |
